Way back in 1992 when Kamla Lohtia Sanatan Dharam College, Ludhiana came into existence, the Post Graduate Department of Economics started its sojourn to academic growth. The Post Graduate Department of Economics came into existence along with the establishment of College in the year 1992. The Department has achieved various feats of excellence under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Mohd. Saleem, Associate Professor and Head, PG Department of Economics. The Department started its working by imparting quality education in the subject of Economics at Under Graduate level to B.A., B.Com classes and uplifted its academic stature to that of Post Graduate one with the start of M.A. Economics in the year 2001. The vision of the Department has been to equip the students with the latest and comprehensive knowledge about the subject and familiarize them with its practical relevance in the contemporary world. The whole faculty of the Department has been working in this very direction by providing skillful education in Economics to BA/ B.Com/ BBA/ M.Com/ PGDIB/ MA/ MEFB students.
The faculty of the Department comprises four Regular members (including two Ph.D) and three members as contract faculty. The Department has shown excellent results over the past 24 years. Various Postgraduate students have secured top university positions and have been placed in merit. Many students have been placed successfully in Government/ Semi-Government and Private Institutions.
The Department has grown progressively and widened its spectrum by organizing various activities like National Seminars, National Conferences, State Level Seminars, UGC Sponsored Seminars, Panjab University Sponsored Regional Seminars, Debates, Declamation Contests, Quiz Competitions, Panel Discussion, Freshers` and Farewell Party and Education tours with the noble aim of dissemination of knowledge and building up of students` personality.
To quote it significantly the PG Department of Economics, Kamla Lohtia S.D. College, Ludhiana owes its existence to the consistent and valuable support and guidance of the College Managing Committee and the Worthy Principal.
